"It's just one, long, tedious conversation with yourself" - Paula Newby Fraser on the Kona Ironman

Sports Psychology night is Thursday 4/21/11 at Fleet Feet at 6:30 p.m.

Our own CTC Board Secretary, Dr. Gloria Petruzzelli, will discuss how endurance athletes can use attitude, motivation, and self-talk, becoming your own inner cheerleader, using imagery and visualization, and goal setting. These skills can be used to prevent race day anxiety and improve performance and training. Learn how to use the most powerful weapon in your race arsenal, your mind, so you can win YOUR race at YOUR pace.

Dr. Petruzzelli is a licensed clinical psychologist and doctor of psychology. She wrote her dissertation on athlete performance anxiety, addressing questions as to why perfomance anxiety makes one athlete perform well and another poorly. She has counselled athletes who were injured and athletes coping with the anxiety of returning to racing after major accidents or injuries, such as triathletes injured in major cycling accidents. She was also the sports psychologist for the rowing team and the track team when she was at Wichita State University. She knows her stuff, she has helped other athletes improve their performances, and she can help YOU improve your performance.

Learn how to talk to yourself Thursday night.
