Hello fellow CTCr's! We have another busy week ahead with lots going on and lots of fun to be had. But first, lets start with a recap of recent events...
Rancho Seco Weekend
We had several athletes competing at Rancho Seco park this past weekend.
Greg Watkins came in 1st overall at the Tri for Fun
Tammie Watkins came in 2nd in her age group
Karen English was 4th in her age group
Steve Brusig was the overall winner in the Du for Fun
Of all these efforts I am excited about. There are two more that are very special to me. Maya English (age 10) finished in the top half of her age group and Jack English (age 7) finished second in his age group.
Am I excited about how well these two fine young people did? Absolutely! I am even more excited about how one of our local families is showing how to do something fun together; to stay healthy and active as a family. Way to go Tony, Karen, Maya and Jack!!
Practice Tri
We also had our club practice triathlon this weekend at Black Butte Lake. Fun was had by all, and I heard a lot of good feedback.
Some of started the morning by being towed out to the Buckhorn Campground by Mr. Jason Berry. Thank you for the 1 hour and 20 minute accumulated pull from the Berry Express.
We had a short swim supported by Kelly on SUP, Laura and Tanya on kayaks. We followed that with a short 40 minute bike ride on the Black Butte Tri sprint course and a 15 minute run on the trails around the campgrounds.
We followed this up with a small potluck BBQ that was a good opportunity for us to hang out an talk. Thank you to all that helped and participated in every aspect of the day.
I hope all of us are a bit more ready to race this weekend!
Also of note:
I failed to mention that two of our founding members competed at Ironman Texas a couple weeks back. Ken Petruzelli and Gloria Petruzelli rocked the course in Woodlands, Texas on May 17th. Both had GREAT days and have fully documented races reports out on the web for your reading pleasure. Ken's report is here:

And Gloria's report is here:

Ken went 20 minutes faster than he did at the same course last year. Gloria went 48 minutes faster and earned 5th in her age group!! While Ken and Gloria are now part of the Wattie Ink crew, they will always be part of the Chico Tri Club. Congratulations to Team K&G!
If I missed anyone, please let me know!
Upcoming events:
CTC Time Trial
As this is week will be the first Thursday of the month, we will NOT be out at the track Thursday night. We will be hosting the Chico Tri Club "First Thursday TT." We are going to be set up at the start of the 10 mile TT course on River Road at 5:30. Riders will be leaving at 6:01. This is a great way to test your fitness and see how you are improving.
First "official" club race of the year is this weekend!
USAP Events Folsom Triathlon Series June 8th at Nimbus Flats State Park in Folsom, CA
We have athletes competing at all three distances on Sunday and it is going to be a great time.
Based on their website, the races will start as follows:
Long Course - Waves start at 6:30am
International (Olympic) - Waves start at 7:00am
Sprint - Waves start at 7:30am
USAP requests that all athletes arrive at least 1.5 hours early for the event. This will result in some early mornings. :)
Registration and Packet Pickup will be at Folsom Bike from 12-6 on Saturday, so if you are in the area, I suggest you stop by there. You will also be able to pick up your packets on Sunday morning starting at 5:00am.
Please check their website and make sure you have all your logistical information squared away and questions answered prior to race day.
USAProductions has also reached out for volunteers. If you are interested in supporting the sport, having some fun (and potentially racing later in the year with USAP for 50% of the race fee) consider volunteering. Friends and family can also volunteer and it is a fun way to interact with the sport. Contact me for details.
If you haven't signed up already, please let me know. We have a special discount code for these races and for USAP events all season long. You can sign up here - http://www.usaproductions.org/
Boise 70.3
We also have a trio of athletes making the trek up to Boise 70.3 to race on Saturday. Jason Berry, Sean Molina and Jacqueline Sasaki are going to be racing on one of the premier courses in North America. This is a 12:00 (noon) start on Saturday, so please send them some positive thoughts and good energy. You can track athletes here - http://www.ironman.com/triathlon/coverage/live

The CTC Summer Party is also right around the corner.
When: Saturday, June 21st at 3:00pm
Where: Sean and Forough Molina's home

This is one of the best opportunities we have as a club to just hang out and get to know each other. No, intervals or pace-lining allowed (ha ha). This should be a no-drop kind of party with family fun for all. Mark your calendars now!!
Don't forget to check out the group workout schedule here. You can connect up with some local and like-minded folks.
Until next time...Swim, ride, run and have some fun!!
