President's Report - October 2018

The Black Butte Triathlon: Registration is now open for the 2019 edition! 

 

End of the Season Party and Board of Director Elections will be on November 17. An e-vite with all of the details will be going out to all members next week. 

Training:

 

Training is winding down for the season. Keep an eye on the Facebook group for updates. If you don’t see a workout that fits your schedule, feel free to post yours and invite others to join you. 

 

Runs:

The Saturday Beginner LSD has returned to it’s normal 9:00 AM time slot. It is a slower paced beginner run going for up to 60 minutes. Meet at the 5-Mile Recreation Area near the bathrooms. 

There is also a LSD run on Saturdays meeting at the 5 mile bathrooms at 8:00 AM.

The Monday Night Run meets at WIldwood at 6:00. The run is posted on Facebook weekly. 

CTC Track Workout:

The track workouts at Chico State are held every Thursday at 5:45. The details will be posted weekly on the Facebook group, so keep an eye out for changes. This workout will end at the time change, however a small group may still meet.  

 

Cycling Workouts:

The Friday ride is done for the season, but will be starting up again in the spring. 

 

The Sunday ride is run by Jenni Merrell. Location, route, and distance vary from week to week. Email Jenni to get the weekly details. Also keep an eye on the Facebook page, she will usually post details there as well. 

 

The Crush ride will be starting up November 3rd. The ride leaves from One-mile at 9AM and runs about 50 miles. This is a “spirited” ride similar to the 50 rides with limited regroups. More information is available on the Chico Area Group Rides Facebook page. 

 

The Wednesday night training rides are run by North Rim. They leave from the store at 5:30 for and generally last for 1-1 1/2 hours. Details are on the North Rim Adventure Sports Facebook page.  

 

Race Results:

This is a shout out to anybody who has participated in a recent race. We would love to hear from you. 

Multi-sport event results for CTC members are posted on the Results page of the website. Contact webmaster@chicotriathlonclub.com with any errors or omissions. Please send any information on a race you have participated in. This could be as simple as your name and the name of the event, your results or a race report outlining your personal experience.

Athlete of the month:

The Athlete of the Month for September is CJ Michaels. CJ has been training and racing with the group all season long. He has become a regular attendee at many of the workouts, especially the  track workouts and Friday rides. He raced the duathlon at Granite Bay and Black Butte, finish first overall at the former. CJ completed his first triathlon at Tinman. Despite a rough start in the water, CJ came back with a great ride and a stellar run to finish third in his AG. Congratulations CJ!

President's Report - September 2018

The Black Butte Triathlon was a huge success with special thanks to the Race Committee. We also thank the members of Chico Triathlon Club our sponsors and volunteers for their support. Registration will be opening soon for next year’s edition. We hope to see you all there.

Training:

Training is in full swing. People are out swimming riding and running everyday. Keep an eye on the Facebook group for updates. If you don’t see a workout that fits your schedule, feel free to post yours and invite others to join you.

The 50 rides meet on Wednesday in front of Rosedale Elementary. They start At the spring time change, and end near the fall time change

Two groups meet at 5:30PM. If you don’t know which group is which, ask!

The Fun 50, which is a no drop ride with a very casual feel. Expect to see speeds at 16-18MPH

The Fit 50, as the name suggest is a bit more racy. Certain sprints along the way and more aggressive ride expect to see speeds of 18-24 MPH

At 6:00PM

The Fast 50 meets. This is the fastest ride in town, speeds are hard to predict. but expect to see an average of 24 MPH, with the occasional surge of over 30MPH.

Come on this only if you are a self supported rider, as this is race like ride.

The Athlete of the Month for September is Karen English. This year Karen completed her first 70.3 at Santa Rosa as well as several sprint distance races including Tinman. She also served on the Black Butte Race Committee working on the sponsorship and food teams. She routinely attends club workouts like the Saturday run and the Sunday bike ride. Karen always has a kind word for other members you can find her at many club functions and volunteering at club events. Congratulations Karen!
