Wednesday Night Winter Training Ride: Hosted by Coach Mike Trowbridge. Details from Mike:

Hi All.... I have had a lot of questions and interest about the Wednesday night workouts. I'm so glad to hear that so many riders enjoyed them. I really did too.... you ALL inspire me to work harder!. So here are the details! As ALWAYS these workouts are FREE and open to everyone... and ALL abilities.. So, yes, the Wednesday night Training rides are back.... for the 8th year! Wow! Time fly's! It's time for me (and maybe you too) to start planning my winter training program. Part of the program that I've planned is to incorporate the Wednesday night (plus one other time per week) workouts. I'll be starting the workouts on Wednesday, Nov 2nd and will do them for 19 weeks (until the F50 is starts). So mark your calendar (all winter long).... Add it to your plan... Etc. Now! Here is my initial plan, BUT, it may change (all good training plans should be subject to change) due to weather, health, and life, etc. The first 8 weeks/Weds I'll (we'll) be working on building strength and power on the bike. That means big gear/low RPM's while seated.... concentrating on making a smooth, FULL, pedal stroke. The second Phase I'll (we'll) be working on building standing power... powering over the top of a hill. And in the 3rd Phase will incorporate the strength that we built with some Anaerobic Capacity (AC) work. AND last, BUT not least, these work outs will help YOU learn how to pedal correctly (more about this at the workout(s)).... And riding a bike is "all about pedaling". ;) To summarize: Nov 2nd, 9th, 16th..... Medium gears... to get the legs, joints and tendons used to the hard work to come.... approx 60-70 RPM's Nov 23nd, 30th, Dec 7th, 14th.... BIG gears... build the strength and power.... approx 40-50 RPM's Dec 21st, 28th, Jan 4th, 11th, 18th .... Big gears (seated) for the first part of the hill THEN stand and power OVER the top of the hill. Jan 25th, Feb 1st, 8th, 15th, 22nd, Mar 1st... Put it all together and power up the hill(s)... as fast as you can Mar 8th... Possible points race (like past years) IF there are enough riders interested. This very important.... To get the most from this plan/workout it's best to start at the beginning and continue through the whole program. Meet.... Wednesday night(s) at North Rim Adventure Sports or at the corner of 2nd and Wall... We roll out at 6PM. Same MO as in the past years... Warm up out through the park and over to CA Park... do the planned work out then cool down back through the park. The whole training session is "about" 1-1½ hour time frame. Please feel free to pass this on to any of your cycling friends and/or post to any mailing list(s) that I may have missed. Hope to see you out there. Cheers, Coach Mike PS A head light is definitely needed... Although the streets are fairly well lit and traffic is low. ALSO... A cadence meter is very helpful. PPS Rain always cancels these workouts are FREE... and all levels of fitness/experience are welcome and encouraged to participate.

Board Candidate Statements

Janelle Gardner:

I am honored to have been nominated to run for a position on the CTC board of directors. I have been a member of this incredible club for 2 years and have really grown a lot as an athlete during that time. I would like to give back by being a board member. I am an active member and experience a tremendous amount of joy by participating in the Sunday morning runs, Friday morning swims, Friday evening rides, and Thursday evening track workouts.  I am somewhat new to triathlons but I am definitely enthusiastic and continue to improve in each sport. My goal is to complete an Ironman 70.3 next year.

It’s really a blast to train with such an inspiring group of dedicated athletes. I’m so impressed by all the members in this club and would like to do my best to assist others to reach their potential. Serving on the board would be both a pleasure and an honor.

Greg Watkins:

I am a charter member of the club and have served on the board since its inception. I am a past president and currently manage membership and the website. I am passionate about the club, have dedicated many, many hours to its service, and hope to continue to do so.

I am also passionate about the sport and am currently planning my 30th season. I have competed at Nationals, Worlds, and an Ironman, but only since 2010 have I known the camaraderie of racing within a club. Put simply, triathlon is more fun this way. I have enjoyed seven seasons of training and racing with the club, and have also enjoyed seeing new members progress from just hoping to finish a sprint to competing in a half or full ironman.

I am extremely proud of the club we've built, and hope to continue to serve as a CTC board member.
