CTC President's Report - October 2023

Swim, Bike, Run Rinse Repeat

Athlete of the Month:

This month’s AOM is Daren Otten for racing Mission Bay Triathlon. First post pandemic race. Daren has to drive an hour each way to practice his swim!  That’s commitment. Way to go Daren! 

Events:

Jersey Ride November 4, 2023 at 10:00 am.  Meet at Madison Bear Garden.

End of season part November 4, 2023 5:00-8:00PM at Secret Trail

YOU DO NOT WANT TO MISS THIS.  We will be giving away swag and have a guest speaker. You will be fed yummy food.

These are both on the same day but there is time for a nap and a shower in between. It will be CTC Fun DAY!!!

August 25th was the last Friday morning group swim of the season! One Mile open water swims will resume in the spring.  

The River Road TTs:   

These are done for the season.  A HUGE THANKS to Erick Ayars for running this!

Rides:

Wednesday hill repeats will resume November 8 in California Park.  Group meets at North Rim 6:00PM and rides to Cal Park together. Watch Chico Area Group Rides Facebook group and our CTC Facebook group for updates.

Runs: 

The Saturday Beginner LSD run is a beginner run going for up to 60 minutes. Meet at the 5-Mile Recreation Area near the bathrooms. Pay attention to the Facebook posts for updates and meeting times. 

The Saturday “dog run” meets at 8:00 at Five Mile on Saturday mornings.  This is a great run for athletes that want a more challenging pace.  Well behaved dogs welcome.

MONDAY Night Run: It is posted on Facebook weekly. This run currently meets at 5:30 at Sycamore Pool (Vallombrosa side) near the bathrooms.  The run is out and back.  All abilities welcome, run at your own pace and distance.

AFTER THE TIME CHANGE this run moves to Wildwood park and meets in the parking lot near the bathrooms.

Uniforms

The uniform store is closed for now.  We will notify you when the next ordering event opens.

T-Shirts and other CTC apparel can be ordered anytime through Squadocker.

Fast 50 @6PM- RACE PACE 50K with 25-26mph avg with bursts up to 30+mph in sections. 3 sprint points (Elk, Fimple, Troxel) Finish on West Sac

Fit 50 @5:30PM- Fast group ride with 22-24mph avg with bursts in upper 20s. Group can split at Troxel turn. 3 sprint points (Elk, Fimple, Troxel) Finish on West Sac.

Fun 50 @5:30PM- Tempo pace group ride (35K) with 16-20mph avg, no bursts or surges or sprints, GREAT beginner group ride.

Fun departs a couple minutes after the Fit.

THURSDAY Night Track Work Outs: Will be starting up soon for you off season runners. This will be at the CSU Chico Track, Thursday evenings at 5:30 confirmed on Facebook page.  Parking is NOT FREE.  It’s the Passport Ap that you use to pay when parking Downtown.

Volunteer Opportunities:

If you would like to be involved in Tinman Mt. Shasta but aren’t competing, please consider volunteering.  A large group of us are going up for the weekend.  Join us at the Blackberry Festival afterwards.  It will be a blast!

One Mile open water swims have resumed!  Meet at 6:30-7:00 AM Fri AM’s on the Vallombrosa side of Sycamore Pool. Wetsuits optional but this is a great opportunity to practice wetsuit swimming.

This takes place the first Thursday of every month through the summer. Meet where 5th street leaves town heading West and becomes River Road. Sign-ups start at about 5:30, first rider off at 6:01.

It’s a 10-mile course, out-and-back, wear helmets, and remember sunscreen and water.

CTC members often meet at Allies Pub afterwards; come join us!

Last TT of the season is September 7!

Many of us will be staying the weekend.  There is a Blackberry Festival in Mt. Shasta following the race.  It’s a very fun event.
