CTC President's Report February 2016

Events:

Chico Stage Race: Please read the following request for volunteers. This is a great local event. Help out any way you can.

Hello Chico Stage Race Volunteers!

The Chico Stage Race is coming up next weekend, February 26th-28th! I apologize if this email is coming too late, but I am just now finding out many of you have not received a volunteer request email I sent out last month.

The Chico Stage Race is a 100% volunteer race, which makes the time you offer so much more important. Every year I say how volunteers are the backbone to our race...and this is completely true. If not for all the hours each of you have committed to this growing race in our community, the race would not be the success it is today.

As a reminder, we run two events on that Sunday which gives more options to volunteer. At the Downtown Criterium we have off-course barrier positions that allow for the volunteer to sit and relax during their shift (often bringing a book or homework to pass the time) and course marshals that are helping with pedestrian safety on the course which allows for more action during your shift. At the Time Trial we have corner marshals that get to see racers zoom by them every 30 seconds or so, as well as rider liaison positions that help with crowd control.

We have many different volunteer opportunities during the Steve Harrison Memorial Downtown Criterium on Sunday, February 28th. Please find the attached flyer with the shift times available.

You can signup online at http://www.chicostagerace.com/volunteer.html, reply back with the shift you would like to work and if you are volunteering for a local team/organization in town,

General Meeting: We will hold a General Membership Meeting on March 5th starting at 1:00 PM at one of our Gold Sponsors The Madison Bear Garden.

Tri 101: Save the date there will be a Tri 101 on May 22, 2016 @ 10 AM at Black Butte lake. Watch for details to follow.

The first Club Race: Will be the Shasta Cascade weekend sports festival in Redding May 27-29.

The following is a tentative list of the Club races for the 2016 season:

  1.  May 27-29 Shasta Cascade weekend
  2. June 25, 2016 the TBF Tri for fun, etc.
  3. Memorial Day weekend, Tinman Tri in Mt. Shasta.

Simply Results Physical Therapy:

INVITATION TO CHICO TRIATHLON CLUB MEMBERS

Keeping you moving is essential: for health, for training and for competition. Physical therapy is instrumental in preventing or reducing conditions such as ankle sprains, plantarfasciitis, shoulder tendonitis, back pain, neck pain, hip dysfunction, knee issues, and wrist/finger/hand problems. With her expertise in pelvic rehab, Kristi has the ideal in-depth training as a physical therapist to address the "core", boosting your energy to prolong endurance and, if that's an issue, to improve continence. Kristi took clinical assessment skills training from the lead Harvard's Spaulding National Running Center physical therapist (2011) and the UC San Francisco physical therapy running experts (2013, 2014).

Monthly Ride: This month’s Club Ride will be led by Greg Watkins. Please see his message for details:. Tri-skenta is Back! As most of you know, there's this little group ride that takes place on Superbowl Sunday (Feb 7 this year). Several hundred riders will leave One Mile at 8:00 AM and head west to the town of Paskenta, roll through four miles of gravel, and complete 100 miles of racing by the time they return to Chico. If that's not your thing, then feel free to join us for Tri-skenta. Similar to last year, we'll be at One Mile ready to roll at 8:00 AM. We'll meet in the north side parking lot by the bathrooms, slightly away from the masses. They will roll at 8:00 sharp and head up the Esplanade. We will roll at 8:01 and take the more traditional route via Ceres and Eaton, which is about two miles longer, keeping us comfortably away from the main pack. The plan is to do the Black Butte cutoff, which will be about 80 miles. This will be a tri-bike friendly, no drop ride with an anticipated pace of 18 to 20 mph depending on wind (last year's average was 18.2 mph including cruising in and out of town). There will be a stop at the Woodson Bridge store and likely a second one in Orland or Hamilton City. If you do bring your tri bike, please be comfortable riding it in groups, and stay off the aerobars unless you're on the front or off the back. Feel free to invite anyone to join in; just be sure they understand the premise of the ride. Rain will likely cancel.

Runs: Tony English, is leading a LSD run on Sundays from the bathrooms at 5 mile at 8:00 AM. This is an easy pace 60 min. run. There is also a LSD run on Saturdays meeting at the 5 mile bathrooms at 8:00 AM.
