CTC President’s Report - May 2015

Hello CTC Members,

Swim, Bike, Run & Smile

Race Results

This is a shout out to anybody who has participated in a recent race. We would love to hear from you. Please send me any information on a race you have participated in. This could be as simple as your name and the name of the event, your results or a race report outlining your personal experience.

Daren Otten sent me the following: So I managed a 2nd today in the 40-44 age group and 30th overall at the HITS Napa/Berryessa race. 1:21:38 was the time. The part that made me real happy was that I was 19th overall on my bike split. That is a huge jump for me given such a hilly course. As far as other early season results I also raced the South Bay Sprint Duathlon on March 7th and finished 5th in my age group and 32nd overall in 1:05:46.

Amy Bromelow sent me the following: Race report first race, Ave of the Giants-weather was dialed in perfect. Even the start was nice and not freezing. I didn't overdress for once. So glad not to have a sweatshirt to carry all the race. My garmin was screwy in the trees so no idea how fast I was going and the miles were off. I must have been drinking too much because I had to hit the pota johns four times in the first half but only once in the second half. This was tricky because I was trying to make sure I drank the recommended amount of water with all the GU's I ate. I felt strong and the shin splints and other issues I have been having weren't bothering me. At mile 14 my legs were burning though. Hamstings and glutes. For the rest of the run they were burning and sore. At 22 my feet tried to start cramping. I had been taking walk breaks but decided that it was too painful to stop and start so I stopped taking them at that time. The course was gorgeous. After running the last 12 miles with seriously burning feet and legs. Once I finished I realized the massages were done and food was packed up. Insisted (more like pleaded) for a massage and drove back to camp. Super sore can barely walk but happy with my accomplishment and new bling. It takes a lot of fortitude to run a marathon but it take a gajillion tons to run 5:47! Good grief. Thanks for all your support CTC! Amy

THANK YOU for sharing your experiences with us.

Training

Swim at One Mile: It is finally time for the CTC official swim workouts to start. They will be Friday mornings at One-Mile, 7:00 a.m. and continue as long as there is water or until Labor Day. If you are new to open-water swimming, this may be your most important training session. Along with getting some swim cardio done, workout leader Becky H. will be there to help you with swimming mechanics as well as teach you to deal with some of the challenging aspects of open water group racing. Additionally, we almost always have many experienced triathletes out there who will happily mentor and welcome you. Depending on ability/level you can expect to do about 800-2,000 meters. Your swim workout co-leaders: Becky Hutchison and Justin C. Waller

Time Trials: The River Road TTs have begun and will continue on the first Thursday of the month until October 1, 2015. CTC will be hosting these TTs for those that have not done one of these yet. It is a great time to test yourself against the clock. Sign up will begin at 5:30 PM. Riders will start at 6:01 PM. The location will be on 5th St. just as you leave town.

Friday Rides: The Friday Rides have begun if you are interested please send an email to Shawn Hughes at president@chicotriathlonclub.com. These rides are great for any rider looking for a mellow afternoon spin and or looking for pointers in ride technique.

Runs: Tony English, is leading an LSD run on Sundays from the bathrooms at 5 mile at 8:00 AM. This is an easy pace 60 min. run. There is also a LSD run on Saturdays meeting at the 5 mile bathrooms at 8:00 AM.

CTC Track Workout. Every Thursday except the first Thursday of the month. Warm-ups begin at 5:45 PM at the PV High School Track. We'll follow with stretching, drills, and some coached workouts for runners of all abilities. On the Third Thursday of the month, many of us head over to El Patron after the track workout for some refreshments. El Patron is a Mexican, order-at-the-counter place in the Safeway shopping center on East Ave. It's at the west end near the gas pumps.
