Hi CTC'rs,
The Jersey Ride was AWESOME!! We had over 30 riders come out this year and it was our biggest jersey ride yet. Lots of fun conversations and everyone had a great time. Many of us had brunch at Mom's afterwards and it was a fantastic opportunity to talk and hang out with athletes and family members. Thank you, Greg Watkins for organizing and leading this great group event.
You may also notice 4 orange, black and yellow jerseys in this picture. It was the first opportunity for Team Pride to join us on a ride. For those of you that don't know, Team Pride is a group of local athletes led by Ray Bransky that is also part of our club. Our club has sponsored 10 memberships for young people in our community that are learning about cycling and multisport.
It was a great opportunity to meet a few of these folks. Thank you, Ray for bringing them out!!
Upcoming Events
Almond Bowl
One of the classic Chico running races is being held tomorrow November 2nd. CTC has several athletes racing the event and The Chico Tri Club will be staffing the aide station at mile 5. It is going to be a party out there! Thanks to Tony English for organizing our volunteers at this event.
Good luck to all the runners and the volunteers! I hope you all have a fun day!
Ironman Arizona
To my knowledge, this is our last pending triathlon for 2014. Our very own Laura Van Dervoort will be racing her first Ironman race on November 16th. Mark your calendars and send some good vibes her way.
Year-end party
Our year-end party will be November 22nd at Jennifer Moore and Jay Pothier's Home. We had a great time last year and we are looking forward to another great year end party this year. Many thanks go out to Jenn and Jay for opening up your home to us again. Please join us! It is a great opportunity to share stories, make friends and make plans for next year.
Board elections
Board elections will be held at the year-end party. Nominations for the board are being excepted until Wednesday, November 19th at 5:00. If you are not going to be able to make the party, "absentee ballots" will be available by email.
Launch Party
Mark your calendars for the Launch Party on January 8th. If any of your friends or acquaintances have the New Year's Resolution of doing a triathlon next year, this would be a great opportunity to introduce them to the club.
Off-Season
It looks as though we are "officially" in the off-season. While workout duration has a tendency to drop off in the off-season, it is a great time to work on weakness. If you are interested in getting fitter, stronger and/or faster the off-season is a great time to do that. It will help keep you focused and help you self limit the extra return trips to the holiday desert line. :)
Looking Ahead at 2015
While many of us are knee deep in the off-season, some of our friends and fellow triathletes are already signing up for races for next year. Vineman 70.3 is one of the most popular races at that distance in the country. It looks like Jason Berry, Tony English, Darren Otten, Jaqueline Sasaki, Shawn Hughes and Joanne Gilchrist were among the speedy entrants to get in right away. I believe they still have room on the second wait list, so if you are interested in doing this race, I suggest you get to it ASAP.
In short order, there will also be an opportunity on the Facebook site to list the races you are planning on for next year. The board is soon going to be targeting "key" races for the club, so let us know what you are looking at doing and perhaps we can find some other races to focus on.
Along those lines, if you are considering a USAProductions event next year, I have received notice that they are having a "24 hour sale" for their events starting November 2nd at 9:00am. Check their website for details.
Thank you for taking the time and investing in yourselves and the club. I look forward to seeing you all at the year-end party.
Until then... Swim, ride, run and have some fun!
Justin
