Sorry for the delay since the last update. Lots of club happenings to talk about.
Ironman Lake Tahoe: Ironman Lake Tahoe was quite an event on Sunday September 22nd. After the race, the course was being referred to by some as the hardest Ironman in the world. Six Chico athletes competed (Justin Waller, Greg Watkins, Bryan Slinkard, Joanne Gilchrist, Rick Ellison and Blake Anderson) and several more volunteered and/or spectated and supported the racers. Club volunteers included Steve Brusig, Shawn Hughes, Becky Hutchinson, Jeriamee Leeman, Sean Molina, Daren Otten, Ken and Gloria Petruzzelli, Laura Van Dervoort, and Tammie Watkins. The club hosted an excellent pre-race dinner (thanks to Tammie, Laura, Ken, and Gloria for all the work) and was given a prime spot for our pop-up in the Tri Club Tent City near the finish line. Member results have been posted to the Results page of the website and pictures from the weekend have been added to the Gallery page of the website. If anyone has additional pictures they’d like to share, please send them to me. I would appreciate you sending just a few select pictures, and it would be great if you could resize them to 1024 x 768 before sending them. The first race report, from Greg Watkins, can be found here.
More Races: Lost in the shuffle of Tinman and Tahoe, Daren Otten recently raced the Tri Graeagle Sprint Triathlon, while Josh and Alison Diaz took on the Triathlon at Pacific Grove Sprint distance race. Results have been posted to the Results page of the website.
Save the Date: The annual CTC End of Year Party has been scheduled for Saturday November 23rd and will be hosted by Jennifer Moore and Jay Pothier. More details are forthcoming, but a primary agenda item will be elections for the 2014 CTC Board.
Jersey Ride: The Jersey Ride has become an annual late year event for CTC. We meet downtown on a Saturday morning for a casual, no drop ride, wearing our CTC gear, of course. The ride concludes at Mom's, where we all enjoy a hearty brunch at a table specially reserved for us. This year's Jersey ride will take place on Saturday 10/26. Notice will be sent out a few days in advance with an RSVP request so we can tell Mom’s how many to expect for brunch. Non-riders are welcome to join us at Mom’s after the ride.
CTC Board Openings: Per club bylaws, board of director positions are elected by the general membership. Eight of nine board members' terms are expiring this year and are therefore open. It should be noted that four of the eight current board members have opted not to run for another term, so we need several new members to step up and join the board. Anyone interested in running for the board must be an active member and must also be nominated. Any active member can make nominations, and you can self-nominate. The vote will take place at the End of Year Party scheduled for Saturday November 23rd. Please direct all nominations, as well as any questions about the election process, to the election committee of Justin Waller (jcwaller900 at yahoo dot com) and Katie Nyby (katienyby at gmail dot com).
Pictures: Pictures from the Lake Almanor Training Camp and from the Mount Shasta Tinman have been added to the Gallery page of the website. Thanks to Laura V. for taking them.
Golden State Triathlon: The final race of the year for many CTC members is the Golden State Triathlon at Discovery Park in downtown Sacramento on October 13th. It's a draft-legal event with sprint and super sprint distances. The draft-legal format is unique for age group racing, and the post-race massage, buffet, and beer garden are well known. Registration is $90 up until race day.
2014 Race Planning: Several club members have been talking about two half-ironman events that are on their schedules in 2014. Some are planning to race Vineman 70.3 on July 13, 2014. The race will fill quickly, so if you're interested in participating, online registration opens on Friday November 1st at 9:00 AM Pacific time. Others are planning for the Pacific Crest Weekend Sports Festival on June 27-29 in Sunriver, Oregon. There is a half-iron distance race on Saturday and an Olympic distance triathlon on Sunday. There is also a bike tour, marathon, half marathon, 10k, 5k, and kid's events . Registration for all events also opens on November 1st. Two condos that are walking distance from the venue have already been reserved, and there is still space available if others want to join in. If you're interested in housing, please contact Shawn Hughes at sponsorship@chicotriathlonclub.com.
