CTC Update for the Week of 6/17

Happy training for the week of 6/17.

General Membership Meeting: Many thanks to Sean and Forough for hosting our general membership meeting this past Saturday.  We had a great turnout with lots of Black Butte stories to tell.  Thanks also to Ken and Gloria Petruzzelli for traveling up from Sacramento to attend and for Gloria's informative talk.

Uniforms:  The current order window for uniforms closes tomorrow night, Tuesday 6/18 at midnight.  So don't delay if you want to purchase a tri suit, cycling kit, or other CTC item.  Complete details, including a link to the Voler Store can be found here:  http://sports.groups.yahoo.com/group/chicotriathlonclub/message/4288

Thirsty Third Thursday: Thursday 6/20 is the third Thursday of the month, meaning it's Thirsty Thursday at the track workout.  Several of us will gather after the workout at El Patron Mexican Restaurant, located in the Safeway Shopping center, 1354 East Ave (on the west end near the gas pumps).  Even if you're not running, you can plan to meet us there; we'll likely arrive around 7:00 PM.

Pictures:  Pictures from the Black Butte practice tri on June 2nd have been posted to the Gallery page of the website.  I'm still gathering pictures from Black Butte to post, so if you have a few good ones, please send them to president@chicotriathlonclub.com.  You might want to resize them before sending them through email.

Races:  Jeriamee Leeman competed in the Rancho Seco International Triathlon on Saturday.  Jeraimee's results have been posted to the Results page of the website.  Please let me know of any additional member results I may have missed.

Next Club Races:  The next club race is TBF Racing's Tri For Fun, which takes place Saturday July 13th.  The More details to come.  For your calendars, the final club race of the year will once again be the Mount Shasta Tinman on September 1st.

Housing Available for Pacific Crest:  Several CTCers will be participating at the Pacific Crest Weekend Sports Festival June 28-30 in Sun River, Oregon.  Events include Long and short course triathlons and duathlons, a 5k, 10k, Half Marathon, Marathon, Bike Tour, and various kids events.  At least two houses have been reserved by club members and there is currently space available if anyone is interested.  Contact Shawn Hughes (sponsorship@chicotriathlonclub.com) for more information.

Discount for Sacramento International:  CTC members have been offered a $10 discount for TBF's Sacramento International Triathlon on Sunday, June 30th at Discovery Park in Sacramento.  This the same venue as the Golden State Tri, and is a USAT sanctioned event.  This year's event also includes an aquabike division.  Contact president@chicotriathlonclub.com to request the discount code.

Discount for Expedition Man:  CTC members have been offered a 15% discount for the Expedition Man Triathlon on August 24th at Lake Tahoe.  Events include Ultra, Half, Relay, and Aquabike.  Contact president@chicotriathlonclub.com to request the discount code.

No Update Next Week: The Pres will be out of town for a while, so there will not be an update next week.

CTC Update for the Week of 6/10

Happy training for the week of 6/10.

Black Butte Triathlons:  CTC showed up big time at the Black Butte Triathlons over the weekend, both on the race course and behind the scenes.  Thanks go out to the many, many club members that helped with the planning and volunteered on either or both days.  The race director has expressed his sincere gratitude for the support provided by the club.  Results for club members have been posted to the Results page of the website.  Please let me know of any corrections or omissions.

General Meeting on Saturday: CTC's next general membership meeting will take place on Saturday June 15 at 2:00 PM at the home of Sean and Forough Molina, 715 Parkwood Drive in Chico.  We'll gather to talk about everyone's race at Black Butte, of course, but will also have a presentation from Dr. Gloria Petruzzelli on the mental aspects of triathlon.  Food and beverages will be provided by the club.  Please direct any questions about the meeting to Sean Molina (training@chicotriathlonclub.com).

Uniforms:  A new order window has opened for CTC Tri-Suits & Cycling Kits.  The store will remain open for 7 days, which means it will close on June 18, (at midnight). Keeping the store open for 7 days allows us to receive the items by August 10th (as opposed to 4 weeks later if we had a longer order window). You can modify your order anytime up to the closing date.  So don't delay! You could be in uniform for some of the best racing on the calendar, including our club's longtime favorite, The Mount Shasta Tinman on September 1st.  Complete details, including a link to the Voler Store can be found here:  http://sports.groups.yahoo.com/group/chicotriathlonclub/message/4288

Mudskipper this Weekend:  The Mudskipper is a unique trail running / mountain biking adventure race at the Meadowbrook Ranch in Magalia.  The event takes place this Saturday, June 15th at 9:00 AM.  You can compete as an individual or as a team of two.  There are obstacles throughout the course and a mud pit at the finish line.  The event is put on by CTC Sponsor Beyond Fitness and Trailhead Adventures and benefits the Paradise Ridge Youth Soccer Club.  Contact Trailhead Adventures (877-6876) or John Touchette at Beyond Fitness (877-7500) for more information.

Next Club Race:  With many still basking in the glow of the Black Butte Triathlons, you might be wondering about the next club race.  That would be the TBF Racing's Tri For Fun, which takes place Saturday July 13th.  More details to come.

CTC Update for the Week of 6/3

Happy training for the week of 6/3.  Updated items are in Bold.

Black Butte Practice Triathlon:  We had a good turnout for the practice triathlon at Black Butte Lake on Sunday.  Attendees practiced setting up a transition, and were able to preview all three legs of the course in a low key, informal setting.  Thanks to everyone that helped plan and put on the event.

Black Butte Triathlons This Weekend:   Our first club race of the year happens this weekend.  The Black Butte MTB triathlons are on Saturday and the Road triathlons are on Sunday June 9.  All club members are encouraged to race, volunteer, or both.  Come out and volunteer on the day you're not racing, and maybe even early or late on the day you are racing.  CTC is responsible for providing volunteers  and has taken on other race responsibilities as well.  The club is working hard to make our "home town" race a premier event in Northern California.  The club's efforts are being coordinated by Shawn Molina, so please contact him at training@chicotriathlonclub.com if you are available to volunteer either day, or would like to take a more active role in the process.

Black Butte Time Change:  Notice from the Race Director:  ATTENTION RACERS – NEW START TIME: BBT race weekend is expecting triple digits heat. COME PREPARED. In an effort to beat the heat, race start will move up to 7am (Sat & Sun – both sprint & olympic distances). The bike course will NOT have water stations, bring two full bottles. The run course will have water stations, but we still recommend self-sufficiency…carry water bottles. HYDRATION + SPF = HAPPY TRIATHLETES.

Tri For Fun:  The English family represented at TBF Racing's Tri for Fun at Rancho Seco on Saturday.  Karen and Tony's results have been posted to the Results page of the website.

Triathlon Questions Answered:  David Pearce of the Maidstone Harriers Tri Club has written a book called "350 Triathlon Questions and Answers."  After receiving numerous and repeated questions from new members of his triathlon club, David decided to collect all the questions and answers in the same place.  The book is available for just $9.95 as an e-book from www.triathlon-questions.com.  All 350 questions are listed on the website, so you can be sure that your questions will be answered before ordering the book.  Book orders will include a  code for a significant discount on an AlertID wristband (www.alertid.us).

Next General Meeting: CTC's next general membership meeting will take place on Saturday June 15 at 2:00 PM at the home of Sean and Forough Molina, 715 Parkwood Drive in Chico.  We'll gather to talk about everyone's race at Black Butte, of course, but will also have a presentation from Dr. Gloria Petruzzelli on the mental aspects of triathlon.
