New Year's Time Trial Results

Hello All, and thanks for coming out for the New Year's Bike/Run/Both Time Trial! This year an anonymous donor (no, not me) donated cash prizes for first male/female biker/runner, so congratulations to Heather Clayborn and Mike Cordova (fastest bikers) and to Sena Minshew and Greg Watkins (fastest runners.) And for anyone who biked slower than 15m 18 seconds, you got beaten by a 63-year-old man. Jim, we all want to be like you when we grow up. :-)

November 2019 President's report

CTC President’s Report November 2019

CTC-A place to have fun, learn and explore your talents.

We had a great year end and volunteer appreciation party. I am amazed at how generous and dedicated our community is in supporting local running events by volunteering and also for all the sponsors and volunteers who made the Black Butte triathlon/duathlon such a success this year. Thanks again to everyone.

CTC members had a very successful 2019 season. We had many firsts, personal bests, podium finishes, and both national and world qualifying times. Over the past 10 years of the club we have had over 1,200 multisport race starts. However, one of the biggest attributes of CTC is the number of new friendships formed and new training partners gained. Our club consists of so many encouraging and inspiring athletes.

Registration for the 2020 Black Butte triathlon/duathlon is opening on Black Friday November 29th . The race will be held on September 12, 2020. Be sure to register as soon as you can, to get the best deal on registration: http://blackbuttetriathlon.org/

There is also a community Sunday 9 am LSD (Long Steady Distance) ride that meets at One Mile. Pace is typically 18-19 mph and there are many options for early turns back in to town during the ride.

Swims:

The One Mile open water swim workouts will resume in the Spring.

InMotion hosts an organized swim workout with stroke drills on Tues/Thurs from 8:30-9:30 am which is free to InMotion members and $50 a month for non-members.

Athlete of the month

The athlete of the month for October 2019 is Darlene Henderson. Darlene has been competing in the sport of triathlon for many years and embodies the multisport lifestyle. Darlene had a tremendous season and demonstrates that dedicated training leads to amazing results.

We will also be recognizing a Volunteer of the month. This month Karen English is the deserving recipient. Karen was on the Black Butte Triathlon race committee for 2019 and also was CTC’s volunteer coordinator for all our volunteer events throughout the year. Her effort and enthusiasm is much appreciated.

For 2019, the Athlete of the Month will consist of recognition of a club member who has contributed to the club in a positive way. This can be from volunteering, participating in club workouts, encouraging others or by competing in a multisport event. The Athlete of the Month will be invited by a CTC Board Member to answer some interview questions if interested, so we can share some information about them with our club.

Please take the time to help us pick the next Athlete of the month. Just send an email to president@chicotriathlonclub.com listing your nomination.

Board of Director Elections

The Chico Triathlon Club will be holding elections for Board of Director positions at the upcoming End of Season Party on Saturday November 23rd. Per club bylaws, we elect only general board positions. Officer positions (President, Vice President, etc.), are decided by the new board once it has been seated. There are nine director positions with each person serving a two-year term. At this time, four of the directors’ two-year terms are ending.

Per our bylaws, any current member is eligible to run for the board, and only current members may vote. Nominations may come from any current member, and members may self-nominate. The election will be held via paper ballots at the End of Season Party on Saturday November 23rd. Early voting will be facilitated via email for current members that cannot attend the party and vote in person.

At this time, we are requesting nominations for the four open board positions. Nominations can be submitted via email to gkwatkins at gmail dot com. All nominees will be contacted and given the opportunity to accept or decline the nomination. Nominees should understand the following before accepting the nomination:

  • The position is for two years
  • Attendance at monthly board meetings is expected (occasional accommodations can be made for special circumstances)
  • Commitments beyond the monthly meetings are expected of all board members. This varies greatly, but may include volunteering at events, contacting potential sponsors, mentoring new members, leading workouts, managing membership, performing outreach and advocacy, and serving on club committees such as membership, training, outreach, uniform, etc…

So that early voting can be facilitated, the deadline for nominations is midnight on Monday November 18th. Any questions about the election process should be directed to gkwatkins at gmail dot com.
