Swim, Bike, Run, Rinse, Repeat

Thanks for checking out the June President’s report. Items of note this month are a new date for the Summer Party, a potential swim clinic, one of our board members being named Coach of the Year at Chico State, and my farewell as CTC President. But first, an acknowledgement of one of our sponsors:

Summer Party Date Change to Sunday July 14th

The club will hold its annual Summer Party on Sunday July 14th from 4:00 to 7:00 PM at the home of one of our members. Current club members will receive an Evite with additional details. Contact membership@chicotriathlonclub.com if you have any questions about your membership status.

Black Butte Triathlon

Thank you to everyone who volunteered and raced the Black Butte Triathlon. The event was a great success and was only made possible through the incredible work of a host of volunteers. Thank you again for giving your time and effort to this event.

Race Results

New results since the last president’s report include Tri for Real, Tri for Fun, USAT Nationals, and Jim Peplow’s race report for Ironman Chattanooga 70.3. Thanks to Tyler for compiling the race results.

Athlete of the Month:

June’s Athlete of the Month is Chelsea Dwyer. Chelsea recently raced Ice Breaker and Tri for Fun. Congratulations Chelsea!

Volunteer Opportunity:

The club’s next Volunteer Opportunity is the Bidwell Bump on Saturday October 12th. Look for additional communications about how you can help out at this local event.

Potential Swim Clinic

The club has been contacted about a potential swim clinic that would occur in mid‑August, possibly at One Mile. The proposed cost is $50 but the club is considering covering half the cost for current members. More details to come. Questions about the clinic can be directed to president@chicotriathlonclub.com.

Chico State’s Coach of the Year

CTC’s own Tyler Spangler, coach of the Chico State Triathlon Team, was recently named Coach of the Year for university clubs. Congratulations Tyler!

The Uniform Store is Closed

The Chico Triathlon Club Uniform Store at Voler has closed. CTC branded shirts and apparel can be ordered anytime through Squadlocker.

Training:

Swims:

The Friday Morning One Mile open water swims have started. Meet at 6:30 to 7:00 AM on the north side of the pool. Swim at your own pace and all abilities welcome.

Rides:

The Friday Rides are Back: Shawn's Friday Rides are happening again, most Fridays at 6:00 PM. The Friday Ride is a low‑key, no drop ride and all abilities are welcome. The ride is particularly good for those new to riding in groups and those who would like some instruction and feedback. Send a message to amigohughes@gmail.com to let Shawn know if you are interested in joining the ride so he can share the details with you.

River Road Time Trials: The next River Road Time Trial is Thursday July 11th (the normal first Thursday is the 4th so we’re postponing due to the holiday). Registration opens at 5:30 PM and the first rider goes off at 6:01. We’ll gather at Allies Pub after the event where the first round of drinks is on the club for all current members.

Wednesday 50s: The Wednesday 50s are community group rides that leave from Rosedale Elementary school every Wednesday during daylight savings time. The “Fit 50” and “Fun 50” depart at 5:32 PM and the “Fast 50” leaves at 5:30 PM (note the time change from 6:00 PM). Group rides are a great way to improve your fitness and bike handling skills and the Fun 50 is the one best suited to newer riders.

Jenni’s Sunday Ride: Since tax season is over, look for Jenni’s no-drop Sunday Ride announcements on the CTC Facebook page.

Runs:

Saturday Morning Runs: The Saturday morning runs meet at Five Mile Recreation Area near the bathrooms. There’s an 8:00 AM “dog” run and a slower paced run that leaves at 9:00 AM. Check the CTC Facebook page for updates and starting times.

Tuesday Night Run: The Tuesday night run meets at One Mile (northside) at 5:30 PM. Check the CTC Facebook page for updates and starting times.

Farewell form the President

I have served on the Board of Directors of the Chico Triathlon Club, including two stints as president, since the club’s inception almost 15 years ago. Due to my impending cross‑country move, I have resigned my board position effective immediately. It has been an honor and a privilege to be a part of this club and I will miss it greatly. The club is in great hands with the remaining board members and I’m confident it will continue to flourish.

Transition Clinic on Sunday June 2nd

Are you preparing for your first Triathlon at Black Butte Lake on June 15th? Are you unsure of what to bring? Would you like to learn from veteran triathletes the best way to set up your gear and transition between the three sports? And have an opportunity to practice them? If you answered yes, the club has an event for you. We’re putting on putting on a Transition Clinic Sunday June 2nd, 10:00 AM at 1267 Orchard Way in Chico. Bring your wetsuit, bike, running shoes, and anything else you think you’ll need to race a triathlon. Experienced triathletes will go over all the details of laying out your gear for quick transitions and will provide tips for newer athletes. Participants will practice with short swim, bike, and run activities to get you ready for race day.
