Even though it's winter time, there's a lot going on with the Chico Tri Club.
End of Year Party: The annual CTC End of Year Party, hosted by Jennifer Moore and Jay Pothier, was a huge success. Thanks again to Jay and Jen for opening their home for what turned out to be a huge number of people. Pictures from the party will be posted soon. For now, you can check out new pictures from the Jersey Ride which have been posted to the Gallery page of the website. Thanks to Laura for taking them.
CTC Board Elections: Board elections were held at the end of year party. We are glad to have Jason Berry, Tony English, Jim Hanna, and Jennifer Moore joining the board for the first time. Continuing board members include Shawn Hughes, Sean Molina, Laura Van Dervoort, Justin Waller, and Greg Watkins. Director positions and term lengths will be decided at the initial meeting of the new board. A huge thank you goes out to departing board members Susan Marshall, Wally Marshall, Katie Nyby, and Josh Rowe, who all contributed significant time and energy to the club over the past several years. Thanks also to Justin Waller and Katie Nyby for managing the election process this year.
New CTC Gear at Northrim: Just in time for Christmas, we have a new shipment of CTC gear that's now for sale at Northrim. New items include long sleeve dry-mesh shirts in red and black for $22.00, men's tech hooded fleece sweatshirts, black with red trim for $40.00, and women's tech fleece full zip hooded fleece jackets in black for $40.00. Please note that a small surcharge will apply for purchases made with a credit card.
December Racing: CTC Member Al Masterson competed at this weekend's HITS Palm Springs Olympic Distance Triathlon. Al's result has been posted to the Results page of the website. Congratulations also to CTC Members Jim Peplow, Becky Hutchison, Mitch Harrell, Jay Pothier, and Jennifer Moore for completing the CIM Marathon this past weekend (hope I didn't miss anybody).
Local Race Planning: Chico's only multisport event, the Chico Kidney Duathlon, will be back for its second year on March 22, 2014. Chico Tri Club is a sponsor of the event this year, and will be helping out with planning, logistics, volunteers, etc. Mark your calendars now, and please consider racing and/or volunteering to support this great local event. If you'd like to get involved in advance, please contact Sean Molina (training@chicotriathlonclub.com) or Laura Van Dervoort (bikingirl01 at yahoo dot com), who will be coordinating the club's support of the event.
A New Tri in Oroville? Discussions are underway for a new triathlon in Oroville that would take place on Saturday May 10th to coincide with the Feather Fiesta Days. It's just in the conceptual stage at this point, but please save the date in case the event comes to fruition. Questions about the potential race can be directed to Shawn Hughes (sponsorship@chicotriathlonclub.com).
CTC Discount for New Year's Eve Race: Under the Sun Events has offered CTC members a 10% discount for the Rad Rockin’ Eve Run, a new retro 80′s themed run at 6 p.m. on New Year’s Eve. Contact president@chicotriathlonclub.com (or reply to this email) to request the discount code.
Xterra Wetsuit Deal: As a sponsor of CTC, Xterra is offering the Vortex Sleeveless Wetsuit, which retails for $300, to CTC members for $109. This offer ends 12/14 and requires a special code. Contact president@chicotriathlonclub.com (or reply to this email) to request the discount code.
Winter Workouts: The weather has been tough lately for outdoor workouts, but there are three weekly group workout opportunities for those who care to brave the elements. As usual, the Saturday LSD Run meets at 8:00 AM at Five Mile, at the bathrooms on the south side of the creek. Pace and distance varies by who attends any given week. Though not affiliated with CTC, winter LSD rides regularly begin Sundays at 9:00 AM, leaving from One Mile. The pace is generally 18-20 mph and the distance can be up to 70 miles, but the course is a large counter-clockwise loop around Chico with ample opportunities to turn left and shorten the route. Finally, Mike Trowbridge at North Rim (our bike shop sponsor) leads the Wednesday Night hill repeats which take place in California Park. The ride leaves North Rim at 6:00 PM sharp as long the pavement is dry. There are regroups after all hill cycles, and any level of rider is welcome. This ride will continue until the time changes in March. Lights are required. By the way, the best ways to keep abreast of workout and other club announcements is by joining the Yahoo Group.
Monday Night Fun Run: The Monday Night Fun Run has been led by Kat Ketterer for quite some time, but unfortunately, she now has other obligations and will be unable to continue. First off, thank you Kat for leading the run for as long as you did. Secondly, is anyone interested in taking over? The run has historically been a casual paced recovery run that starts at 5:45 PM on Mondays. It typically begins at One Mile in the summer and moves to Wildwood Park in the winter. I’d like to know if there is interest in keeping it as a regular workout. Please send any feedback about the run, including interest to lead it, to president@chicotriathlonclub.com.
