CTC Update - 12/10/2013

Even though it's winter time, there's a lot going on with the Chico Tri Club.

End of Year Party:  The annual CTC End of Year Party, hosted by Jennifer Moore and Jay Pothier, was a huge success.  Thanks again to Jay and Jen for opening their home for what turned out to be a huge number of people.  Pictures from the party will be posted soon.  For now, you can check out new pictures from the Jersey Ride which have been posted to the Gallery page of the website.  Thanks to Laura for taking them.

CTC Board Elections: Board elections were held at the end of year party.  We are glad to have Jason Berry, Tony English, Jim Hanna, and Jennifer Moore joining the board for the first time.  Continuing board members include Shawn Hughes, Sean Molina, Laura Van Dervoort, Justin Waller, and Greg Watkins.  Director positions and term lengths will be decided at the initial meeting of the new board.  A huge thank you goes out to departing board members Susan Marshall, Wally Marshall, Katie Nyby, and Josh Rowe, who all contributed significant time and energy to the club over the past several years.  Thanks also to Justin Waller and Katie Nyby for managing the election process this year.

New CTC Gear at Northrim: Just in time for Christmas, we have a new shipment of CTC gear that's now for sale at Northrim.  New items include long sleeve dry-mesh shirts in red and black for $22.00, men's tech hooded fleece sweatshirts, black with red trim for $40.00, and women's tech fleece full zip hooded fleece jackets in black for $40.00.  Please note that a small surcharge will apply for purchases made with a credit card.

December Racing: CTC Member Al Masterson competed at this weekend's HITS Palm Springs Olympic Distance Triathlon.  Al's result has been posted to the Results page of the website.  Congratulations also to CTC Members Jim Peplow, Becky Hutchison, Mitch Harrell, Jay Pothier, and Jennifer Moore for completing the CIM Marathon this past weekend (hope I didn't miss anybody).

Local Race Planning: Chico's only multisport event, the Chico Kidney Duathlon, will be back for its second year on March 22, 2014.  Chico Tri Club is a sponsor of the event this year, and will be helping out with planning, logistics, volunteers, etc.  Mark your calendars now, and please consider racing and/or volunteering to support this great local event.  If you'd like to get involved in advance, please contact Sean Molina (training@chicotriathlonclub.com) or Laura Van Dervoort (bikingirl01 at yahoo dot com), who will be coordinating the club's support of the event.

A New Tri in Oroville?  Discussions are underway for a new triathlon in Oroville that would take place on Saturday May 10th to coincide with the Feather Fiesta Days.  It's just in the conceptual stage at this point, but please save the date in case the event comes to fruition.  Questions about the potential race can be directed to Shawn Hughes (sponsorship@chicotriathlonclub.com).

CTC Discount for New Year's Eve Race:  Under the Sun Events has offered CTC members a 10% discount for the Rad Rockin’ Eve Run, a new retro 80′s themed run at 6 p.m. on New Year’s Eve.  Contact president@chicotriathlonclub.com (or reply to this email) to request the discount code.

Xterra Wetsuit Deal:  As a sponsor of CTC, Xterra is offering the Vortex Sleeveless Wetsuit, which retails for $300, to CTC members for $109.  This offer ends 12/14 and requires a special code.  Contact president@chicotriathlonclub.com (or reply to this email) to request the discount code.

Winter Workouts:  The weather has been tough lately for outdoor workouts, but there are three weekly group workout opportunities for those who care to brave the elements.  As usual, the Saturday LSD Run meets at 8:00 AM at Five Mile, at the bathrooms on the south side of the creek.  Pace and distance varies by who attends any given week.  Though not affiliated with CTC, winter LSD rides regularly begin Sundays at 9:00 AM, leaving from One Mile.  The pace is generally 18-20 mph and the distance can be up to 70 miles, but the course is a large counter-clockwise loop around Chico with ample opportunities to turn left and shorten the route.  Finally, Mike Trowbridge at North Rim (our bike shop sponsor) leads the Wednesday Night hill repeats which take place in California Park.  The ride leaves North Rim at 6:00 PM sharp as long the pavement is dry.  There are regroups after all hill cycles, and any level of rider is welcome.  This ride will continue until the time changes in March.  Lights are required.  By the way, the best ways to keep abreast of workout and other club announcements is by joining the Yahoo Group.

Monday Night Fun Run:  The Monday Night Fun Run has been led by Kat Ketterer for quite some time, but unfortunately, she now has other obligations and will be unable to continue.  First off, thank you Kat for leading the run for as long as you did.  Secondly, is anyone interested in taking over?  The run has historically been a casual paced recovery run that starts at 5:45 PM on Mondays.  It typically begins at One Mile in the summer and moves to Wildwood Park in the winter.  I’d like to know if there is interest in keeping it as a regular workout.  Please send any feedback about the run, including interest to lead it,  to president@chicotriathlonclub.com.

Jersey Ride:  We had a nice turnout for the Jersey Ride on Sunday 10/27 which was followed by a hearty brunch at Mom's.

End of Year Party:  The annual CTC End of Year Party will take place Saturday November 23rd at 6:00 PM at 217 Idyllwild Circle in Chico.  The event is hosted by Jennifer Moore and Jay Pothier.  The club is providing dinner and non-alcoholic beverages, but please feel free to BYOB.  All current club members and their guests are welcome.  An Evite has been sent to all current members (to the email address we have on file for you).  Please RSVP via the Evite if you have not already.  If you are a current member and did not receive an Evite, or just have questions about your membership status, please contact Katie Nyby (membership@chicotriathlonclub.com).  She can ensure that we have your correct email address and can also have the Evite resent if needed.

CTC Board Elections/Nominations: Board elections will take place at the end of year party on November 23rd.  If you are not able to attend you will be able to vote via email in the week prior to the election.  Nominations are still open, but will close Wednesday November 13th.  If you are interested in serving on the board, or know someone who might be, please nominate them (or self-nominate) by the deadline.  There are 8 positions available; half will be two-year positions, the other half one-year.  The position durations will be finalized by the new board, but all nominees will be asked to state a preference if they have one.  Please submit nominations via email to Justin Waller (jcwaller900 at yahoo dot com).

Ironman on TV:  The Ironman World Championships from Kailua-Kona, Hawaii will air this Saturday, November 16, at 1:30 PM on NBC.  Set your DVRs now.

TBF Sale Through November 30:  Our friends at TBF Racing are currently offering discounted entry into all of their 2014 races.  Prices go up on all events on December 1st.  Notable events include the Folsom Lake International on May 10, Sacramento International on June 28, and Granite Bay on August 23.

CTC Update - 10/21/2013

Golden State Triathlon:  The club had a good turnout and lots of fast racing at the Golden State Triathlon on Sunday 10/13.  Racers included Greg Watkins, Ken Petruzzelli, Al Masterson, Mike Marvier, Jeriamee Leeman, Daren Otten, Tammie Watkins, Elda Mariscal, and Dan Spencer.  Results have been posted to the Results page of the website.

Jersey Ride:  The Jersey Ride has been moved back a day to accommodate another event in town.  It will take place this Sunday 10/27, not on Saturday as previously announced.  We'll meet at 9:00 AM in the parking lot at the corner of 2nd and Salem in downtown Chico (across from Mom's), wearing our CTC gear, of course.  It will be a casual, no drop ride of about 1.5 hours that will finish at Mom's, where we'll enjoy a hearty brunch at a table specially reserved for the club.  If you're planning to ride, or just join us for brunch after the ride, please RSVP via the event on the club's Facebook page.  If you're Facebook averse, then please RSVP to the ride leader Shawn Hughes (sponsorship@chicotriathlonclub.com) so we can have an accurate count for Mom's.

Save the Date:  The annual CTC End of Year Party has been scheduled for Saturday November 23rd and will be hosted by Jennifer Moore and Jay Pothier.  More details are forthcoming, but a primary agenda item will be elections for the 2014 CTC Board.

CTC Board Elections/Nominations: The next election cycle for the CTC board is upon us.  The official election will be held at the November 23rd end of year party.  If you are not able to attend you will be able to vote via email in the week prior to the election.  At this point, we are looking for nominations for board members.  We are looking for people who are interested in participating and contributing to the direction of our club.  If you know one of these people please let us know.  If you are one of these people, self-nominations are also welcome.  Within this election cycle, we have 8 positions available.  In an effort to have a more consistent direction within our board, the 8 positions will be 4 one-year positions and 4 two-year positions.  The position durations will be finalized by the new board, but anyone that is nominated (and self nominees) will be asked to state a preference for duration.  Nominations will be accepted through November 13th.  Please submit nominations via email to Justin Waller at jcwaller900 at yahoo dot com.
