CTC President's Report - June 2015

Hello CTC Members, my sincerest apology for not getting this out to you sooner.

Kristine Mason has agreed to Chair our Marketing Committee. Welcome aboard Kristine.

Race Results: This is a shout out to anybody who has participated in a recent race. We would love to hear from you. Please send me any information on a race you have participated in. This could be as simple as your name and the name of the event, your results or a race report outlining your personal experience.

Congratulations to Michael Dailey and Joanne Gilchrist for completing the Coeur d’ Alene Ironman. Michael’s performance secured himself a spot in the World Ironman Championships in Kona Hawaii.

Events: Good luck to everyone who will be racing this upcoming weekend at the Vineman 70.3. Or anywhere else ;) CTC had a great turnout at the TBF Tri for Fun and Tri for Real, this last month. There were a lot of CTC racers on the podiums!

Please note that the time is running out to register for the Granite Bay Club Championship. Remember if you register early CTC will pay for your registration (within the set guidelines).

The bike maintenance skills clinic was a great success last month. We will be holding another one soon.

A HUGE Thank you to the Molina’s for hosting our annual Summer Party. In addition thank you to Rod Jennings and Tim Wells and Pep Boys for donating the transition buckets. In addition Xterra Wetsuits donated a new wetsuit, which was won by Christine Bergman.

We have received word that the Tinman Tri at Lake Siskou is going to happen this Labor Day. Make sure you try to make this event. It has been a blast in the past.

A group of CTC riders rode up to Nevada City on Father’s Day to watch the Nevada City Crit races. If you didn’t get to make it this time, keep your eyes open for information on another group ride coming soon.

Training: It is finally time for the CTC official swim workouts to start. They will be Friday mornings at One-Mile, 7:00 a.m. and continue as long as there is water or until Labor Day. If you are new to open-water swimming, this may be your most important training session. Along with getting some swim cardio done, workout leader Becky H. will be there to help you with swimming mechanics as well as teach you to deal with some of the challenging aspects of open water group racing. Additionally, we almost always have many experienced triathletes out there who will happily mentor and welcome you. Depending on ability/level you can expect to do about 800-2,000 meters. Your swim workout co-leaders: Becky Hutchison and Justin C. Waller.

The River Road TTs have begun and will continue on the first Thursday of the month until October 1, 2015. CTC will be hosting these TTs for those that have not done one of these yet. It is a great time to test your-self against the clock. Sign up will begin at 5:30 PM. Riders will start at 6:00 PM. The location will be on 5th St. just as you leave town.

The Friday Rides have begun. If you are interested please send an email to Shawn Hughes at president@chicotriathlonclub.com. These rides are great for any rider looking for a mellow afternoon spin and or looking for pointers in ride technique.

Open Water Swim: Join us July 19, 2015 @ 8:00 AM at the Buckhorn Campground at Black Butte Lake. Please see more details on the Face Book page.

Runs: Tony English, is leading an LSD run on Sundays from the bathrooms at 5 mile at 8:00 AM. This is an easy pace 60 min. run. There is also a LSD run on Saturdays meeting at the 5 mile bathrooms at 8:00 AM.

CTC Track Workout. Warm-ups begin at 5:45 PM at the PV High School Track. We'll follow with stretching, drills, and some coached workouts for runners of all abilities. On the Third Thursday of the month, many of us head over to El Patron after the track workout for some refreshments. Since we missed out last week, we are having the Thirsty Third Thursday post workout get together tomorrow. El Patron is a Mexican, order-at-the-counter place in the Safeway shopping center on East Ave. It's at the west end near the gas pumps. For those that just want to show up for the food, we'll probably get there between 6:45 and 7:00 PM. (Thanks Greg Watkins)

Athlete of the month: Congratulations to JERIAMEE LEEMAN for being voted the athlete of the month in June. (We will follow up with awards soon)

Volunteer opportunity: Tony English has created the following list of volunteer opportunities for the Club. Please contact Tony English @ vice_president@chicotriathlonclub.com, if you are interested in helping out at any of the events listed below.

  • Please make sure to check out the volunteer opportunity with Sutter/Yuba Tri and CTC at the upcoming Tahoe Ironman.
  • Late May thru August – Tri season – no major effort.

  • Love on the Rocks Sept 12 advertise opportunities (if no on Loco)
