CTC Update for the Week of 6/3

Happy training for the week of 6/3.  Updated items are in Bold.

Black Butte Practice Triathlon:  We had a good turnout for the practice triathlon at Black Butte Lake on Sunday.  Attendees practiced setting up a transition, and were able to preview all three legs of the course in a low key, informal setting.  Thanks to everyone that helped plan and put on the event.

Black Butte Triathlons This Weekend:   Our first club race of the year happens this weekend.  The Black Butte MTB triathlons are on Saturday and the Road triathlons are on Sunday June 9.  All club members are encouraged to race, volunteer, or both.  Come out and volunteer on the day you're not racing, and maybe even early or late on the day you are racing.  CTC is responsible for providing volunteers  and has taken on other race responsibilities as well.  The club is working hard to make our "home town" race a premier event in Northern California.  The club's efforts are being coordinated by Shawn Molina, so please contact him at training@chicotriathlonclub.com if you are available to volunteer either day, or would like to take a more active role in the process.

Black Butte Time Change:  Notice from the Race Director:  ATTENTION RACERS – NEW START TIME: BBT race weekend is expecting triple digits heat. COME PREPARED. In an effort to beat the heat, race start will move up to 7am (Sat & Sun – both sprint & olympic distances). The bike course will NOT have water stations, bring two full bottles. The run course will have water stations, but we still recommend self-sufficiency…carry water bottles. HYDRATION + SPF = HAPPY TRIATHLETES.

Tri For Fun:  The English family represented at TBF Racing's Tri for Fun at Rancho Seco on Saturday.  Karen and Tony's results have been posted to the Results page of the website.

Triathlon Questions Answered:  David Pearce of the Maidstone Harriers Tri Club has written a book called "350 Triathlon Questions and Answers."  After receiving numerous and repeated questions from new members of his triathlon club, David decided to collect all the questions and answers in the same place.  The book is available for just $9.95 as an e-book from www.triathlon-questions.com.  All 350 questions are listed on the website, so you can be sure that your questions will be answered before ordering the book.  Book orders will include a  code for a significant discount on an AlertID wristband (www.alertid.us).

Next General Meeting: CTC's next general membership meeting will take place on Saturday June 15 at 2:00 PM at the home of Sean and Forough Molina, 715 Parkwood Drive in Chico.  We'll gather to talk about everyone's race at Black Butte, of course, but will also have a presentation from Dr. Gloria Petruzzelli on the mental aspects of triathlon.

CTC Update for the Week of 5/27

Happy training for the week of 5/27.

Black Butte Practice Triathlon:  The Practice Triathlon at Black Butte Lake will take place this Sunday, June 2nd at the Buckhorn Recreation Area (link to map).  We will begin at 10:00 AM, so please plan to arrive by at least 9:30 if not a little earlier.  Bring everything with you that you would bring for a race.  When you arrive, go ahead and set up a transition area as you would for a triathlon.  We'll have a brief talk followed by group swim, bike, and run activities on the actual course, with breaks between for regrouping, questions, etc.  Event details and a race day checklist have been posted to the website:

www.chicotriathlonclub.com/documents/2013_Black_Butte_Practice_Triathlon.pdf

You also may want to bring along a picnic lunch or supplies to barbecue, as several of us will be hanging out at the recreation area afterwards.  Please direct any questions about the event to Sean Molina (training@chicotriathlonclub.com).

Black Butte Triathlon Volunteers:   CTC has taken on the responsibility of supplying volunteers for both day's events:  the MTB triathlons on Saturday June 8 and the Road triathlons on Sunday June 9.  All club members are encouraged to come out and volunteer on the day you're not racing, and maybe even early or late on the day you are racing.  CTC has taken on other responsibilities as well, and the club is working hard to make our "home town" race a premier event in Northern California.  The club's efforts are now being coordinated by Shawn Molina.  If you are available to volunteer either day, or would like to take a more active role in the process, contact Sean directly at training@chicotriathlonclub.com.

Open Water Swimming at One Mile:  Memorial Day marks the kickoff of the Friday morning swim workouts at One Mile.  Meet at 7:00 AM on the north side of the pool for some open water swimming with instruction and stroke suggestions from Wally Marshall.  The first official workout will be Friday May 31.  Look for weekly confirmation of the swim on the Yahoo group.

The Monday Fun Run is Back:  Kat Ketterer is now coordinating the Monday Fun.  Kat will be leading the run beginning Monday June 3rd.   Meet at 5:45 PM at One Mile for a casual run of up to six miles.  Look for weekly confirmation of the run on the Yahoo group.

CTC Update for the Week of 5/20

Happy training for the week of 5/20.

Open Water Swim Program: The Chico Masters Swim group has officially opened its doors for CTC members and developed an open water swim program. Open water swimming focused workouts will be available Mondays and Wednesdays at Noon and 7:00 PM at In Motion Fitness for swimmers age 19 and over. Punch cards good for five workouts can be purchased for $35 (whether or not you're an In Motion member). The cards will be valid for two months. There is also a monthly "swim as much as you want" rate that is $32 for members and $52 for non-members. To participate, all masters swimmers must join Pacific Masters Swimming. The fee is $48 per year and information can be found here. Additional information and registration forms can be found here. Please direct any questions about the new swim program to Justin Waller (jcwaller900 at yahoo dot com). And thanks to Justin for all his hard work on getting these workouts set up for CTC members.

Uniforms: Uniforms are here. Pick-up is being coordinated by Sean Molina, so if you placed an order, you should have already received a direct email from him. If not, you can contact him at training@chicotriathlonclub.com. And if you missed the window on this year’s order and are interested in a tri suit or cycling kit, please let Sean know. Reorders can be made for as few as five pieces, so once there’s enough interest, we will open another order window.

Race Results: On Saturday, Ken and Gloria Petruzzelli took on the heat and humidity of Ironman Texas in Houston. On Sunday, Michael Daily competed in the World's Toughest Half in Auburn. Their results have been posted to the Results page of the website.

Race Photos: Pictures from last weekend's Folsom Lake International triathlon have been posted to the Gallery page of the website.

The Monday Fun Run is Back: Kat Ketterer is now coordinating the Monday Fun. While we'll skip next week for Memorial Day, Kat will be leading the run beginning Monday June 3rd. Meet at 5:45 PM at One Mile for a casual run of up to six miles. Look for weekly confirmation of the run on the Yahoo group.
